It appears the reason voters are so disgusted with Congress right now is that polarization of the two parties makes it difficult for the People’s Work to get done. Democrats won’t budge from their position on spending and entitlements and Republicans won’t budge from the mandate they received in November 2010 elections to cut spending and balance the budget.
How do the two parties find compromise when their goals are so polarized? Whatever they do they are bound to receive a backlash from constituents, so they hold fast to their positions and maintain career goals. This is exactly the reason Members of Congress will do nothing to risk status quo. The loser, of course, is The People’s Business not getting done as needed. The idea is to not upset the apple cart and hope kicking the can down the road a little longer will work for now; letting somebody else risk their career to do something about the problem.
If polarization is the problem, what can we do to change this situation? Can we do anything except complain and continue to be part of the problem? My suggestion is that we become part of the solution and help Congress do the right thing. Personally, I believe we can do something to help the situation by giving up some of our comforts and becoming more responsible for the demands that we place on Congress.
Think about it:
- What are you willing to give up so that Congress can do the right thing for the nation?
- What will happen to this nation if we continue down this same path and the necessary changes do not take place?
- What is the problem with government’s continuation of reckless spending and creating a huge debt?
- Do you agree with Bob from The Five (seen on the Fox News Channel) when he said, “What’s the problem with spending and raising the debt ceiling — we’ve been doing it for years.”
- Do you believe that Socialism and being a Nanny Government is the right direction for America?
These questions are relevant now because our nation is at the crossroads. If we continue on the path that we are on, we will become like Europe — just another socialist nation. Many socialist nations are presently failing because of huge debt and their population is dependent on socialist programs that their country can no longer afford. If we protect the system that gives us the American Way of Life, then we need to get off this path. We need to get back to the foundation that set up America as the most successful economy in the world.
If you ask most of the Old Timers about how they see America now, as compared to the past, they will likely tell you that we are off track and destroying America. On the other hand, when you speak to the youth of America, they will likely tell you that it’s time America changes and join the global society. It’s this type of thinking that’s behind the progressive movement and why they want to take America in another direction. These differences are the reason we see a problem in Congress.
The bottom line is that Congress can’t get anything done because of the clash between progressives and conservatives that affect policy.
Not only are we talking about the views of constituents being represented in Congress, but also about the vision progressives and conservatives have for the future of this nation. The progressive movement is becoming more assertive and succeeding in getting their policies passed into law. At the same time, conservatives (who were silent and complacent) are waking up and becoming more committed to protecting Conservative Policies set by the Founding Fathers.
Whatever point of view you hold, is it really worth destroying America to get what you want? Is it worth the sacrifices of all those who gave up so much to bestow the freedoms and liberties that we enjoy today? I do not believe you fully understand what the greener side of the fence will provide…believing that everyone under a Socialist or Communist system will be on the same level and taken care of, with no poor or wealthy among us.
- Do you know that this system controls everything, including your freedom and rights?
- Do you know that this system has failed in Russia and other nations?
- Do you know that Castro of Cuba said the Communism doesn’t work? (Castro replied: “The Cuban model doesn’t even work for us anymore.”
