I’m not laughing, I’m snarling!!
These figures cause one to think, especially in these times when Congress is the more dysfunctional than ever.
Did you see the following email yet? It is something to consider, don’t you think?
Salary of retired US Presidents ..................$180,000 FOR LIFE Salary of House/Senate ............................$174,000 FOR LIFE Salary of Speaker of the House ....................$223,500 FOR LIFE Salary of Majority/Minority Leaders .............. $193,400 FOR LIFE Average Salary of a teacher .......................$ 40,065 Average Salary of Soldier Deployed in Afghanistan..$ 38,000
THE POINT OF THIS MESSAGE:
I think we found where the cuts should be made! If you agree… Pass On This Message to Everyone!
There are many people who think career politicians should be retired after a period of time in Congress. Perhaps new requirements should be implemented for newly elected government officials. What do you think?
The problem is career politicians because they have financial reasons for not upsetting the apple cart by doing the right thing. They would have to commit political suicide if doing what’s right is also unpopular, even though it’s what they were sent to Washington to do.
Getting paid for life is a big incentive for them to make a wrong choice.
- What would happen if this incentive is removed?
- What would happen if there was term limits for service?
- What would happen if those in Congress and all branches of the government had to get the same type of insurance and benefits the rest of us have to purchase?
- What would happen if we could choose to have the same type of benefits that these people receive now that we pay for them to enjoy?
- What would happen if we could cancel payment on the services of politicians who do a poor job?
What “if” is always a fun thing to think about but rarely realistic. Too bad, because these ideas would be nice to see come into law. It sure would put a different spin on how they handle our business wouldn’t it? Perhaps they would start making the right decisions when money is not involved.
Here is a perfect example of what I’m talking about!
