I was reading a NewsMax.com report on the anthrax scare and told my husband, “See, I was right. I knew it because the minute I heard it was weapons grade it could not have come from al Qaeda.

Weapons grade chemicals for anthrax had to come from the United States. In fact, the FBI determined that a US Scientist was the one responsible for the death of 5 people and 17 people who became ill.

Since the 2001 scare of anthrax being sent through the mail, and Post Offices having to add extra equipment to catch powder in the mail, there have been several copycats trying to fake it by sending powder to people they don’t like and make them think it’s anthrax.

According to the NewsMax report, “The Government Accountability Office will look into how reliable and accurate the FBI’s scientific and technical methods were when it concluded Dr. Bruce Ivins was responsible for the anthrax-laced letters sent in 2001.”

Investigators zeroed in on Bruce in 2007 , when they were able to identify the single-spore batch of anthrax that came from  Ivins’ lab. Dr. Ivans committed suicide in 2008 when he knew prosecutors were about to charge him for letters laced with anthrax in 2001.

According to NewsMax, “Democratic Representative Rush Holt asked the GAO to conduct the review into the FBI’s methods after the agency announced in February that it had officially closed the case.”

“Please know that we may encounter challenges to our access to sensitive and classified information from the FBI and the intelligence agencies,” the GAO said in a letter to Holt he released this week accepting his request for a review.

In addition, The National Academy of Sciences is doing it own review of the anthrax investigation and should have a report ready later this year. We will be watching for it. has been doing its own review of the FBI’s scientific methods used to investigate the anthrax attacks. The GAO said that report is due to be finished later this year.
