Conservatism and Liberalism

I have been enjoying conversations on Sodahead.com social site but it can get very harsh sometimes. Most of the conversations I get into are political and with that we get comments from the left and the right, from Liberals and Conservatives, which are better known as Democrats and Republicans. I share with you some of the conversations because I think we can all learn something good from them.

I appreciated a comment from Hawkeye on SodaHead. We were discussing the Rally that Glenn Beck did on August 28, 2010, Martin Luther King day, in Washington D.C.  The Rally on Restoring Honor has sparked a whirlwind of controversy between Democrats and Republican, Progressive Liberals and Conservatives. Thus, the comment from Hawkeye has been included in this post and the concepts he mentioned discussed in detail.

It was a DREAM to TRUE Americans who BELIEVE in the Dream of Martin Luther King and a NIGHTMARE to ALL progressives everywhere who SEEK to PROFIT from the racial divide and who ACTIVELY incite ans seek to PROMOTE that divide..

The terms “Liberal” and “Conservative” are OFTEN and FALSELY used to describe political Ideology.. They have nonetheless, for ALL their falsehoods,, become the accepted norm..

MLK was a REPUBLICAN in EVERY sense of the WORD.. SURE,, he,, AND the Republicans,, were LIBERAL in their desire to CHANGE the racial inequities of his time JUST as the common DEMOCRAT was CONSERVATIVE in THEIR desire to PRESERVE them..

The FACT is,, that there are Liberal and Conservative traits within ALL people.. Lincoln was Liberal in HIS desire to END slavery while at the SAME time he was CONSERVATIVE in his dedication to the preservation of the Union..

MAKE no mistake about it.. There is EVERY bit the difference between a REPUBLICAN doing a Liberal thing and a Democrat doing a Liberal thing as there are between the two parties themselves.. Likewise,, the SAME can be said of Republicans and Democrats taking a Conservative Stand.. The DIFFERENCE is in WHAT they are talking about.. The DEMOCRATS who took the CONSERVATIVE stand against the Civil Right’s acts of 1957 and 1964 bear NO resemblence to the CONSERVATIVE stand that Slavery and racial discrimmination of ANY kind are UNCONSTITUTIONAL..

But, if it makes it confusing for some.. It will HELP to remember this.. Though the terms Liberal and Conservative might be DIFFERENT depending upon WHO it is that you’re talking about and what THEY are talking about,, the term Progressive is CONSTANT no matter WHO you’re talking about.. A Progressive Republican is NO BETTER then a Progressive Democrat.. They are ONE IN THE SAME and Martin Luther King would’ve had NOTHING to DO with EITHER of them…

NOR would ANY other, TRUE AMERICAN…

Another comment I appreciated came from Willie Stoker on SodaHead. If you go on sodahead, you had better have the stomach for being attacked for your beliefs. Some of it can be really mean, so if you can’t stand the heat don’t go into the kitchen because it gets really hot in there sometimes!

I think the main problem the liberals have with Glen Becks “Restoring Honor” , is that they have no concept of Honor.

Everything about the event was good and decent, if liberals can’t comprehend that, then they need to do some soul searching, and try to find what is important to them, other than trying to silence those who bring the light of truth to a people who have been deceived by the darkness of deception, by the “elite progressives” who think that we are all ignorant and need to be lead toward that utopia that they envision when they finish their work on society.

I believe that an event like this will be a great stumbling block to the progressive agenda, and will bring us all back to reality, and help us to understand what evils have been perpetrated upon us. God Bless Glen Beck and his work, He may just go down in history as one of the most influential and patriotic person of this century.

I answered Willie with the following comment.

All I can say is that I agree with everything you said. Yes, liberals have an idea of honor but I don’t think they live by it. The way I see it, self-serving and self-gratification is their honor.

I don’t understand how they can see the vision for America being other than what our Founding Fathers saw. Some want to destroy America and rebuild it in their own image…an image that scares me to death.

I didn’t think that the left were living  in reality but I’ve been wrong before and may be again. I laughed five years ago when I heard of a group on television named “Godless America”. They claimed they would remove God from society. Is that reality coming to pass? Yes!

I also laughed ten years ago when my friend and I were discussing gay marriage being lawful. Are we seeing this coming to pass? YES! So my point, the left may be slightly insane and ungodly, yes they call us names and pull dirty tricks, but we stay in the fight and do all we can to protect the Country the Founding Fathers established.

We love this nation and the Constitution, even though Liberals try to convince people that we are racists and liars, which I think really describes them, but we still carry on and won’t be shut up. They try to bait us into situations so they can say we are something about us that we are not.

Liberals are bullies and try to bully their way into a new world.  However, they keep getting resistance from us. Why? Because we don’t want to give up on what we had when we grew up, we want the same for our families. So don’t be afraid to stand up to the bullies and don’t be baited into their games.

Be a patriot when it’s not easy. Conservatives (those who believe in God and Conservative values) will win in the end because God is the ruler of the earth. He guided America by His own hand and has protected America through the decades.

We have to fight for what we have and be committed to that fight. But as my son told me, we can’t fight evil with tools evil uses. We have to fight with the tools Christ used. We can’t forget that concept…especially on sodahead when liberals are on the warpath!

Then I got this comment from a Liberal:

This isn’t much of an either-or question but I have to choose something. They were talking about civil rights in the context that they understand it. Last week I read a quote from a 71 y.o. retired stockbroker who stated that he’s learned more history from Glenn Beck than he ever learned in school. Mr. Beck is a savvy entertainer but it should disturb people on both sides of the aisle that he is in a position where he “teaches” history to people. Some of the stuff that he says is seriously just crazy talk.

So, of course I had to add my two cents about rewriting history.

I was going along with you about Beck teaching history that has been removed from history books and were actually hidden away.

I find it interesting that a Liberals named President Wilson started slavery (and the race war). He was the first to divide people because of race. Why didn’t we learn that in the history books? I know that your answer likely will be that Beck has rewritten history but that just isn’t true!

Wilson and other Liberals have rewritten history. For example, in Texas this year, they just finished writing the history books for high schools to use. There was a huge division between Conservatives and Liberals over the content, so don’t tell me that liberals don’t rewrite history; just as they do now and they have done in the past twenty or thirty years.

Another example of rewriting history is the impact Mormon Pioneers had on settling America. How much do you know about the impact that Jews, Mormons, Joseph Smith, Brigham Young and other religious leaders had on our history?

How much do you know from history books of the impact that blacks had? For instance, did you know that blacks served in Government positions before President Wilson segregated them, and that they served in our fight for independence? Did you know their contribution to history has been hidden under a stairwell so we would not know about it?

How come my daughter was taught some things that were very wrong about America in her history class? That was 15 years ago…so don’t tell me that hstory is being changed by Glenn Beck and Conservatives! He just exposes the history that has been hidden from us, so how is that rewriting history?

Don’t you dare claim the lie that Beck is teaching false history when you obviously don’t know a thing about what he teaches. Educate yourself before you start saying Beck teaches lies. I am pleased that we are learning so much about our history from him. I hope he keeps it up.

Sadly, our youth don’t know any more what America stands for or why America was admired by other nations. Nor do they know why we have fallen to the point of being hated so much by people around the world. But I know. Do you?

In conclusion, I want to tell you what noneyobus said and my comment back to him. He sums it up so well.

But the rally wasn’t merely about civil rights, it wasn’t at all about politics (though we can hope this is a side effect), it wasn’t even so much about a particular religious practice; it was about principles and what made this country great. We are so far removed from what the founding fathers envisioned, most people under 30 don’t even know what the Constitution is about. It is not enough to say you are one thing or another. We have learned all too well what mere talk does in Leadership. We must all strive to educate ourselves about the historical legacy of the founding fathers vision.

Who will dare to spend ten minutes reading any part of the Constitution, the writings of Jefferson, the easy way out – rent that fabulous mini series John Adams. I am 40 and when I was in school they were still teaching a little of our accurate history, but I can tell you it is all but gone now. Like much of the Media, our textbooks and teachers now teach a framed version of history if at all. You have the greatest amount of resources ever – all you have to do is search. TEN MINUTES IS ALL I ASK!!!

We cannot restore America if we don’t know what it once was!

My comment back to him:

I want you to know that I praise your comment. You are right on all counts. Thank you.
*You were right about the rally not only being about civil rights
*You were right about the rally not being on politics or a specific religion
*You were right about the rally being a celebration of what the Founding Fathers envisioned
*You were right about people under 30 not really understanding the meaning behind the Constitution.
*You were right about people hearing too much talk but seeing little leadership in government
*You were right about educating ourselves about the historical legacy of the Founding Father’s vision.
*You were right about taking only ten minutes to educate ourselves, but once we do, we will become so engrossed in what we learn that we won’t want to stop.
*You were right about the need to restore America to what it once was!

I hope you will check out my site for more information on these points. News Our Day Solutions.com Click on the link “GLIMPSE OF OUR FUTURE” and look over the topics there. Then click on “DEMOCRACY” and read Mt Vernon Statement and The United States Constitution.

Thanks again nonyobus. I really enjoyed your comment.

My goal is to try to tone down the hateful rhetoric and find a way to communicate with civility when we disagree with each other. It’s good to disagree when we are open to other ideas. It’s okay to agree to disagree when we are civil to each other. It’s good to have a healthy conversation about issues as long as we don’t debate it.

Debating is not a healthy environment to protect the peace. People are pitted against each other and the point is to win the debate. The goal is NOT to gain an understanding of the other person or to appreciate another opinion or to have a coming together of the minds.

I wanted to share one more thing with you to show you what I’m talking about. One person made a really mean and harsh statement towards me. I was bothered by the hate in her tone and so I wrote to her. I want to share with you our ability to reach a truce.

ME: Can we stop all the hate talk. I want to be friends with you but I don’t like the tone of our conversations. How can we find a medium to tone it down? I don’t believe that Conservatives are hateful and racists, but everything gets turned around. It just all gets screwed up. Is there something we can do to change the situation?

TIFFANY: Sounds good to me. Sorry if I came off a little harsh……but I was quite taken aback by the end of your comment.

ME: I don’t think I said it right, but I think it’s okay to be bold about our opinions but we need to be civil about it. I must of been nasty too but it is a problem on this site. There is so much hate and anger that it’s hard not to get caught up in it. I am so impressed with the sweet apology and I too am sorry. It’s cool that we can talk like this and still believe differently on politics.
