Still Considering Executive Order for Amnesty

It appears that the White House is still looking for ways to grant amnesty through the back door and void a Congressional vote.

New information coming in today on reports that the Obama Administration may be looking into ways to allow the 11 million or more illegal immigrants who are here already to sty in in the United States without the approval of Congress. Fox News obtained an internal memo from a group inside the department of Homeland Security called U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services.

This memo reads in part: “In the absence of Comprehensive Immigration Reform, [Citizenship and Immigration] can extend benefits and protections to many individuals and groups by issuing new guidance and regulations… This would allow thousands of individuals to become lawful permanent residents.”

The agency behind the memo says this is not a new policy or a proposal exactly, just an exchange of ideas. Could the Obama Administration really allow this to happen? Critics call this a back-door amnesty to allow illegals to become citizens if it is so inclined.

For weeks now, a group of Republican Senators have been sending messages to the White House saying basically: “Just so we understand, you are planning to grant some form of amnesty to some untold number of illegals, by-passing Congress altogether. That’s not okay, please tell us if that in fact is your plan.” They were completely blown off, the Department of Homeland Security has not responded to them yet. Now we hear about this memo allowing thousands of illegals to be granted citizenship without Congress approval.

Peter Johnson Jr., Fox News Legal Annalist states: “Of course there are denials, saying this is just something we are talking about. But it is a long memo and very detailed. Basically, what it would do is override the will of Congress. They are saying that they have the capacity as an arm of the White House, as the executive branch, to do what they need to do. The same way that the arguments were made in Arizona, that ‘we occupy this fear of immigration in this country, we make these decisions’, they are saying they can do this by administrative fiat, that they can make decisions about something called differed action. This is where they say someone has overstayed their welcome in this country or they are here illegally, they differ action on them in terms of their deportation.”

Megyn Kelly of Fox News made the observation that the government has the discretion do that for humanitarian reasons, but this doesn’t seem to be the case. Johnson responding by saying: “Well, this is a wholesale effort to include more people in the American scene and not engage in deportation but rather engage in importation of a lot of people who don’t necessarily belong in this country…This is just an expansion of the Executive Branches power.” Johnson appears to be saying that the Executive Branch is extending their power by lessening the Legislative Branch’s power.

What is troubling to many is the fact that they deny such plans and then turn around and grant amnesty to people without Congressional Approval. When Congress passed such amnesty in the past, such as 1982 under President Reagan, their was five years in the making with lots of discussion about it first. After Congress passed it, then it went to the President to sign. But in this case, they are purposely going around Congress and the time it would take to consider such a motion. Yes, this sort of situation is very troubling. Keep in mind that this memo that has come out is 52 pages of very detailed articulation of how to by-pass Congress and give amnesty to illegals.

This President seems to be making it a habit in abusing executive power. In other words, if he can’t get something passed that he wants, he just goes around the opposition and gets what he wants any way.  If this is the truth, then we should be very concerned about a President of the United States who will NOT accept “NO” because he knows best or because his ego won’t let him accept “NO”!

A good example is the Health Care bill. It may have passed through Congress, but notice how they had to get it passed…without Republican representation. They went around the objection of the people, represented by the Republicans and plenty of marches on Washington. They had to force Democrats who were a “NO” to vote “YES” through bribes and intimidation behind closed doors and in secret.

Another example is, just recently, the recess appointment of Donald Berwick (please use this Google link for more information on him) to head Health Care/Medical/Medicade. Basically, this means supporters were coming out and saying, “Well, he isn’t going to get confirmed by Congress anyway so why bother with a hearing, without even having him scheduled for a hearing.

Then we have the Cap and Trade bill they weren’t going to get through the U.S. Senate so now they’re looking at putting it to the EPA as crack-down on regulations. And now we’ve got immigration reform that they couldn’t get through Congress and so they are trying to go through DHS (Department of Homeland Security) to get it through. If this had been President Bush, you know what people would have to say. You know there would have been a huge outcry of abuse and the rhetoric from politicians would have been much louder.

Take a look at the Arizona thing, where government sued instead of lending them adequate assistance in securing their border…which is the Federal Government has failed doing, even though it is their responsibility. Sure, the government says they are securing the border but what they do is minimal and does not adequately solve the huge problem we have now. Let me remind you of the detailed 52 page memo. That’s not just considering this idea, that’s a concerted effort we are talking about here.

Should we be concerned about the President’s attitude?  What action can the citizenry take that tells the President to stop going around the people? How far should the people go in voicing their objections before it turns into sedition and violence? If violence occurs then we give the President a reason to enact Martial Law, which suspends our civil rights and the end of Democracy as we know it.

This is something that we need to consider right now, because it might soon become an issue that you will face and cause you to react. My philosophy is that reaction in default equals chaos. In default means we react because we don’t have a plan for how to respond appropriately. When we react out of emotions, ego, or impulse almost always cause contention and chaos.  However, if we consider our response now and we have a plan that avoids chaos, then we all win. If you have a plan on how you will respond, please share it with us.

This situation is a dangerous one, and it will take restraint and commitment to handle ourselves appropriately. Are you prepared to make that commitment to me, to the citizenry of America, and to the Democracy that we hold so dear? I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
